Ready to Stop Procrastinating? The Simple Way to Get Motivated to Work

Updated: 2 days ago

If you're procrastinating on doing the money-making work in your business, it's not because you're lazy. You're stuck in an internal conflict. Learn why your inner coach causes procrastination and how to finally get moving.

"You look like a whipped dog"

Standing in the middle of a circle of 30 people in a sales training and I was role playing sales calls.

SALES CALLS!

And he was right. I was so weak in that moment that I literally felt like a whipped dog.

I was so terrified of sales that it brought up a paralysing fear in me that I'd never felt before (and I've cage dived with Great White Sharks man). And so sales became my absolute nemesis - where the very idea of getting on the phone to someone to sell them a package felt crippling.

But despite my 'whipped dog' aura, I was making A LOT of money.

It was 2013.

Hustle culture had become mainstream and the pressure to "get rich at all costs" was on the table.

People bragging about $1 million dollar months was normal... and this is what I paid to be a part of.

But it came at a cost.

Because when I stepped back and got a clearer picture years later, I could see why I felt like a whipped dog. I'd become part of an industry that gaslights, uses manipulation tactics and high school mean girl strategies to separate you from the herd (and your money).

"Either You're One of Us... or You're a Poor Loser if You Don't Buy My $15,000 Program"

This is cultish behaviour... and insidious when it comes to succeeding in your business.

And I look back now and can see very clearly that it wasn't me per se (even though I blamed myself), it was the methods I was being taught that felt completely out of integrity (I have a lot of regrets).

But for the longest time I had this voice in my head yelling, "You need to make money. This <whatever productive task I was doing> is a waste of time, MAKE MONEY or you're a loser!".

And it was this "HURRY UP!" energy and impatience that held me back from mastering certain skills so I could actually make the money for the long term (rather than chase "get rich quick" schemes).

I couldn't stop procrastinating in my business (which is a TOTAL oxymoron), because I didn't know how to get out of my own way.

I kept taking shortcuts, throwing spaghetti at the wall. Some would hit, lots would miss... and then spiral myself into "not good enoughness" for weeks on end.

Now I don't blame the coaches I worked with for this.

It was just that culture at the time.

But that experience did a number on me in terms of the pressure I started putting myself under... and this created a major internal conflict in my mind and body which kept me stuck for a long time.

The Coach vs The Creator: Stop Procrastinating in Your Business for Good!

If you're drawn to this blog, I'm assuming you're in a business to help people.

And while it's nice to make lots of money, you've spent time and money mastering your craft so you can do that.

But one of the biggest problems I see with women in business (that stop them from achieving that), is the internal conflict between their inner Coach and inner Creator.

Your Inner Coach - the Master of Discipline

The inner Coach is your motivator. It pushes you, challenges you and can often be critical of what you're doing.

There are a lot of people who function really well with their inner Coach.

But then there are those who get highly triggered by our Inner Coach... and that can come from past trauma by a parent, teacher, the school bully or boss.

Those experiences create "imprints" in our subconscious mind that can also become part of our inner dialogue.

As a result, when we feel pressure from that internal voice, instead of going balls to the wall at it, we shut down and can't function.

And that's because that voice is trying to push you to the end result (often with guilt and shaming tactics) when you're not 100% ready.

So letting this part of you take over before you're mentally (and even strategically) ready, will send you into procrastination and paralysis.

This is when you start labelling yourself as lazy and avoid the work - because you're procrastinating and rebelling against your inner Coach.

But your Coach is tapping out your nervous system by putting you straight into fear state. This then shuts off your Executive Function (the part of your brain that helps you think clearly).

And so if you've ever had a boss (or parent) that yelled at you and wasn't very nice - and you started making MORE mistakes as a result, this is the same thing.

So you need to send your Coach on a holiday, create calm in your mind, set up your business with proper structure and feel more in control.

Here's how we do that:

Enter The CREATOR - The Master of Flow

Your inner Creator is slower paced, because it's the artist who loves the process.

It isn't worried about the pot of gold. It's in love with the craft of the "Right Now".

It loves being eyeballs deep in learning, perfecting, and becoming really good at a new skill.

When the Creator is driving, your nervous system is calm and relaxed, which makes it easier for you to drop into Flow State.

And in flow state you're productive, clear headed and will make more money.

This part of you is best nurtured before your Inner Coach can start its work.

Otherwise, if you let the Coach take control too soon, the Creator starts getting emotionally wobbly because it's got "someone" looking over its shoulder telling it to "Hurry up!" (just like that horrible old boss).

Negotiation, Not Domination

For years, I let the Inner Coach beat the "whipped dog" inside of me. And while at the time I thought that was discipline, I now know that it wasn't, it was self-abuse.

So I had to learn a new way to operate: through understanding both parts and their roles in my success.

Because you can't let the Coach run the show, but you also can't just be a dreamy Artist with no guardrails.

You need a way to get them to work together without pulling you in 2 different directions.

This is where Hypnosis changed everything for me.

Hypnosis acts as the Mediator.

It puts your Inner Coach in the backseat so your inner Creator can come out and do the work... and then the Coach naturally takes the driver's seat when the Creator's created its masterpiece.

And so when you neutralise those triggers from your inner Coach, you can just get on with the work... and the money will naturally follow.
